Today NYC Parks and Rockwell Group unveiled the design for the first Imagination Playground in Brooklyn and the second site-specific park worldwide. The project involves the reconstruction of an approximately 1.5 acre portion of the 10-acre Betsy Head Park. Rockwell Group is transforming the existing rectilinear, asphalt-covered site into a lush, verdant park with meandering paths and play areas for children and adults. Inspired by large number of London Plane trees that populate the park, we are weaving a sinuous play ramp through the trees to define the play area and create the feeling of being up in a tree house. Prior to the playground's opening, a set of blocks is being donated to the Brownsville Recreation Center for the neighborhood to enjoy. The playground is anticipated to begin its construction in the spring of 2014 and open in the spring of 2015.
