Architectural Digest Greenroom at the Academy Awards

Los Angeles, CA

For the 86th Annual Academy Awards, Architectural Digest's editor in chief Margaret Russell selected Rockwell Group to design an exclusive greenroom for the evening's Oscar presenters and honorees.

In a converted backstage space and loading dock of the Dolby Theater, a greenroom takes on the theme of an urban loft in an indoor-outdoor setting.

The space has a calming material palette of metal, stone, and wood in neutral tones.
Rockwell Group LAB developed an Android application to display one image or a montage.

Inviting furnishings and interactive technology engage guests.

Architectural elements like wood joists, cast iron-style columns and a wall of black-framed windows add industrial appeal. Co-curated by Susan Sarandon and David Rockwell, a Samsung media wall of 86 Android devices creates a digital mosaic with archival images.

Existing walls were extended with birch waddle panels around the entire garden perimeter.

A loading dock adjacent to the lounge became a lush fantasy garden. A canopy of lights suspended from the ceiling illuminate birch panels and welcoming upholstered seating.
