Collective Design Fair

The annual Collective Design Fair explores the significance of art and design across creative disciplines and everyday life, featuring the masterworks of the 20th and 21st century alongside experimental work from the newest generation of artists and designers. Celebrating its 5th anniversary this year, the Collective team asked the LAB at Rockwell Group to create an arrival moment that amplifies, celebrates, and extends the entry experience to the fair.

Inspired by the idea of reinventing the red carpet, its powers of choreography, transformation, seduction, and anticipation, the LAB conceived Tinsel Town. A blue carpet in Collective’s signature hue covered by a digitally-fabricated passageway welcomes visitors in an unexpected way. Clad in playful layers of thatched Mylar fringe, the pavilion appears to expand and contract, almost as if alive.

Immersive, interactive, and colorful Philips LEDs triggered by IR sensors are programmed to light up as visitors walk down the carpet, fostering a sense of discovery and excitement.

A time-honored “grand entrance” tradition is playfully mixed with new materials.

Experience Tinsel Town at Collective Design May 3-7, 2017 at Skylight Clarkson Sq during NYCxDESIGN. For more information, please visit their website.
