If you caught CBS Sunday Morning on May 19, you might have glimpsed the show’s new, temporary set, designed by the LAB at Rockwell Group. To celebrate its annual design episode, hosted by Jane Pauley, Sunday Morning commissioned the LAB to create a one-time tableau. Watch the segment here.
Rockwell Group welcomed the Sunday Morning audience into an imagined world built from foundational elements of the show.
For both CBS Sunday Morning and our studio, audience is at the center of all we do. Since its first broadcast in 1979, CBS Sunday Morning has provided a ritual experience for an audience who finds meaning not just in the day’s headlines, but also in the blueprints of culture laid out by contemporary architecture, performance, and the visual arts. This ritual has endured in large part thanks to Sunday Morning’s original set design by legendary scenic designer Victor Paganuzzi, who laid the groundwork for a program that offered viewers familiarity and nuance for nearly five decades.
Our design for the set used the show’s sun symbol for the heart of our concept, inspired by the 9,000+ viewer-created and submitted suns that have been used in the show over the decades—a testament to wide-reaching impact and resonance.
