October, otherwise known as Archtober here in New York, is overflowing with design events, from the classics (Open House New York Weekend and the MAS Summit for New York City) to new additions. We can't RSVP fast enough. Here are some of the highlights we're really looking forward to.

- 70’s and 80’s interior designer Angelo Donghia (whose bedroom is above) said: “You should feel at all times that what is around you is attractive. And that you are attractive.’’ The New York School of Interior Design documents Donghia’s career in a new exhibition.
- An art installation provides a rare opportunity to see the inside of the empty and decayed Brooklyn Navy Yard Hospital Building. Free; reserve a spot here.
- This exhibition at the Museum of the City of New York traces a century-plus of affordable housing in New York.
- Do a walking meditation at Freshkills Park with Venerable Thupten Phuntsok and artist Tattfoo Tan.
- Tour the IceStone factory, where waste glass is turned into beautiful surfaces.
- Hear Louis Becker, design director and partner at Copenhagen-based Henning Larsen Architects, discuss the use of light in Nordic architecture and art.
