SLS Barcelona
Hotel & Resort
SLS Barcelona is the brand’s first European venture, located within the city’s revitalized Port Forum waterfront district.
Rockwell Group Madrid’s office helped to establish a narrative that would connect the hotel to its surroundings, but distinguish it from the city’s more well-known motifs. The building’s location on the Mediterranean, near the mouth of the Besós River, inspired each of the spaces through the lens of a particular lunar phase, acknowledging the moon’s influence on the tide, and the cycles and rhythms of daily life.

Guests arrive at the SLS Barcelona through an open-air courtyard and engaging porte-cochère. A playful indoor-outdoor energy flows into the lobby, where a curved, two-tone terrazzo floor guides visitors past the glow of hammered metal and bronze details. The lighting fixtures evoke the moon. Just off the lobby, an undulating ramp emulating waves provides access to views of the sea and restaurant.
Guestrooms also reference the various phases of the moon. The Standard room reflects the calm and introspective New Moon, while Waxing Crescent is captured in the junior suite, wellness room and long-term apartments, centered around new energy, motivation, and excitement.
Suites are named after the First Quarter and focus on self-care and activity, while Full Moon is found in the fittingly energetic and passionate Signature and Celestial Suites. Lunar motifs are found in the subtlest details, from headboards and minibars to eclipse-like corridors featuring a gradient blue wall covering. In the Signature Suite, a dramatic, moon-like light fixture is suspended over the bed.
