Seahorse
Restaurant
The past and present are intertwined at Seahorse, a modern seafood restaurant and raw bar nestled within the W New York - Union Square. Located on the ground floor and at the northeast corner of the park, the restaurant has an unmistakable energy that comes from both the city outside and the hotel.
An archway sequence leads from the hotel's lobby and into the restaurant. The warmth of the bar area with its zinc top and teak paneling creates a welcoming environment upon arrival.
Seahorse is inspired by the city: New York’s rich history of oyster farming and the surrounding waters; the Union Square Greenmarket and its abundance of fresh, seasonal food; and Union Square, with its historic details and micro-culture, as well as its ever-transforming uses and atmosphere.
The harmonious palette—woods and blues—references sailing vessels and the expansive sea. From the brushed zinc top and hand-glazed blue fish-scale tile die of the oyster bar to the deep blue leather and textured tweed fabric of the banquette seating, our palette has a rich handcraftsmanship.
A surrealist 40-foot-long mural by the Brooklyn studio En Viu aims to enhance the essence of the restaurant’s main dining floor. Titled Rhapsody In Blue, this hand-painted artwork portrays a scene where swirling waves create a festive atmosphere on the East River. The playful, celebratory scene invites a new discovery with every visit.
