Imagination Playground at Betsy Head Park

Brooklyn, NY

The world’s second site-specific Imagination Playground park is a pro-bono project designed for Brooklyn’s Brownsville neighborhood and developed in collaboration with the New York City Department of Parks & Recreation.

A ramp full of interactive play structures will weave its way around the park. Enclosed by mesh, the pathway becomes a theater-like space to be enjoyed from every angle.

An aerial rendering of the ten-acre park.
An elevated ramp rises to a height of six feet.

The plan brings new life to the once asphalt-covered site.

Children can create their own games with sand, water, and loose Imagination Playground blocks. Spaces appeal to all senses—sound funnels and speakers, water jets, and a repurposed shipping container are united by a playful tree house motif.
