Plug-In-Play

San Jose, CA

Plug-In-Play was an interactive urban-scale projection installed at San Jose City Hall. Inspired by the theme of the Zero1 Biennial, “Build Your Own World,” the installation invited visitors to interact physically and virtually with the city.

Art interacting with its environment

Rockwell Group’s LAB developed software that tracked geo-location data (via Twitter feeds, Foursquare check-ins, Flickr postings) as well as physical activity around interactive objects in the square. This data was filtered and translated into an abstracted version of a cityscape projected onto the façade of City Hall. Plug-In-Play celebrated the interconnectedness of people and things through play, social media, and human interaction.
