Reinventing the Globe

Washington, D.C.

“Reinventing the Globe: A Shakespearean Theater for the 21st Century,” was an exhibition at the National Building Museum in which architects reimagined the iconic theater for today. Rockwell Group's contribution was an updated take on the "Old Globe," with a structure that uses pivoting scrims, projections and opens up to the sky.

Spaces are layered to allow for the widest possible range of interactions in a variety of settings with three-tiered setting featuring an open lower-level and an exterior balcony. Much like a circus coming to town, modules built from local scaffolding parts make the theater portable and easily assembled all over the world.
